QR Code Series · Part 3 of 3
Generating a QR code is easy. Living with the one printed on 10,000 packages is the part that deserves thought.
A generator converts information such as a web address, contact detail or payment identity into a pattern a compatible phone can read. The important decision is what kind of code the business creates.
Static is simple. Dynamic is flexible.
A static QR code stores fixed information. Once printed, its destination cannot normally change. It works well for a stable UPI payment identity, Wi-Fi details or a permanent page the business controls.
A dynamic QR code usually opens a managed redirect first. The final destination can often be changed later, and the platform may record scan activity. It is useful for campaigns, changing menus, events and materials with a long print life.
That flexibility has a trade-off: the business depends on whoever controls the redirect. A free service that expires, changes its terms or closes can turn good packaging into a dead end. For important campaigns, keep control of the domain and destination.
Advantages need context
QR codes are affordable, familiar, quick to use and able to connect a small printed space with a much richer digital experience. They can also make offline campaign response measurable.
They are not perfect. A blurred print may fail. A slow page can waste the scan. Poor connectivity can stop the journey. Public stickers can be covered by fraudulent ones. Scan totals can also look impressive while creating no useful business action.
For payment safety, NPCI gives one rule worth remembering: scanning a QR and entering a UPI PIN is for making a payment, not receiving one.
Use this checklist before printing
- Define the customer action.
- Choose static or dynamic based on the real need.
- Use a destination the business can control.
- Test the scan on different phones and at the final printed size.
- Check that the destination is fast and mobile-friendly.
- Inspect public payment codes regularly.
- Measure the action after the scan, not only the scan.
The best QR code is not the most colourful or technically impressive one. It is the one that keeps working and helps the customer complete something useful.
